... STUDYING

Sibu, Malaysia

Sibu, Malaysia
A futuristic architecture close to its roots

The University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) in Sibu, in the heart of the island of Borneo, opened two years ago. The architecture reflects the scientific and technological nature of the teaching programmes that take place in a setting resolutely focused on sustainable development, as revealed by the 104 SUNEAL brise-soleil that adorn the grand entrance. A first in the area!

"Besides the roof, the entrance to the University features a large body of water created as a reminder of the intricate link between the development of the city of Sibu and the Rejang river, which was also used for developing transport.", Hii Puong Ching, the architect, explains. "Indeed, I wanted this project to reflect the unique location of this city connected to the river and the particularly dense forest on the island of Borneo. This explains the presence of these huge overhanging structures offering a protective and reassuring shade, as a reminder of the forest canopy. And to illustrate the cutting-edge spirit of the UCTS campus, the buildings were designed to give an impression of constant movement, with a futuristic design and using state-of-the-art materials".

Hii Puong Ching chose TECHNAL "for its products, in particular for the GEODE façade, which will fully contribute to us reaching the thermal insulation performance levels required by the GBI (Green Building Index) environmental certificate, but also for the quality of TECHNAL's technical support." Besides the GEODE horizontal trame curtain walling, TECHNAL also provided the TOPAZE windows, the TITANE high-traffic entrance doors and the SUNEAL photovoltaic brise-soleil fitted to the skylight of the central aisle. This active solar protection system is made up of 104 motorised blades that can be positioned in three directions by an automatic control system depending on the position of the sun. Note: TECHNAL is the first system supplier in the region to provide a ready-to-install active solar protection, a solution implemented by its client Sincere Aluminium.

... WORKING

Waterfall City, South Africa
South African light

Waterfall City

Maxwell Office Park, set in Waterfall City near Johannesburg, meets the sustainable development criteria as well as current well-being requirements for workers at the workplace: natural light, large interior space, architectural creativity, and more.

The programme includes seven three-storey buildings, including a two-level underground car park, a business centre, a conference hall and a restaurant. The design of the building gives way to natural light while protecting occupants from the sun rays, either via brise-soleil installed as awnings, or via the large balconies outside certain offices. The East and West façades are protected from the sun by thick concrete walls clad with natural stone, imported directly from Italy, which creates an outstanding aesthetic effect.

These office buildings were designed with a view to getting the "4 Star Green” label of the “Green building Council of South Africa”, which aims to reduce the project's impact on the environment: rainwater collection for the toilets, low-energy lighting, presence detectors and a predominant use of natural light. In order to optimise the glass surface area and incorporate the aluminium profile into a visible grid design, which takes after the trame formed by the stones clipped onto the concrete façades, the architects chose the GEODE curtain walling and the TOPAZE system for casement windows and sliding systems. TECHNAL, has shown its client CGA Fenestrations the quality of its products, the responsiveness of its engineering and logistics service, in line with the requirements of such a project.

Quebec, Canada
Vitrerie Laberge chooses TECHNAL

Vitrerie Laberge

Founded in 1955 by Paul Laberge, who was then joined by his brothers Maurice and Laurent, Vitrerie Laberge develops all types of aluminium joinery products for entrepreneurs, architects or private customers. The company started manufacturing and installing TECHNAL products two years ago and is the brand's sole representative in North America.
Mario Savoie, general manager of Vitrerie Laberge, is fully satisfied with this choice: "after these two years of successful partnership, we confirmed that TECHNAL is a serious and reliable partner. Its range of joinery products is perfectly compatible with our policy which consists in selling highly energy-efficient products to meet the requirements of the Quebec market."
The thermal efficiency of LUMEAL sliding systems, SOLEAL windows and doors, as well as GALENE lift & slide windows is perfectly compatible with the constraints of the local climate! Vitrerie Laberge regularly presents its products at professional trade shows such as Contech Montréal and Contech Québec. The TECHNAL products and the clean and simple architecture of the stand to highlight the joinery products, stand out against local competitors.

Vitrerie Laberge actually won two awards at the Quebec Contech trade show: the "Accent Design" Award for the design of the stand and the "Coup de Cœur" Award for new products with TECHNAL's GALENE sliding system with lift and slide mechanism. These awards and the success of the company since it began working with TECHNAL have driven Vitrerie Laberge to create a showroom exclusively dedicated to TECHNIAL products in its company in Québec.

A new design for the GEODE façade: the flat cap

GEODE

GEODEWith the range of GEODE curtain walling products, architects and building designers can create any façade design with high thermal efficiency using a unique structure with the 52 mm module (mullions and transoms): visible grid appearance, horizontal trame, vertical trame, frame aspect and currently, an all glass appearance with a flat cap of only 48 mm in width and 4.5 mm in thickness.

The flat cap solution combines the technical and economic benefits of GEODE continuous pressure plates with the 100% glazed aspect of Structural Sealent Glazing (SSG): the manufacturing process is simplified as there is no intermediary frame or bonding and drying time. And the glazing is easier to replace.

As with other GEODE applications, this solution is fully compatible with SOLEAL thermally broken doors and windows or traditional TOPAZE doors and windows, as well as with TITANE high-traffic doors.

... EVENT

Dubai, United Arab States
TECHNAL, flagship of the Big 5 Show 2014!

Dubai

By showcasing its motorised and thermally broken products, which are hardly developed on this local market, Technal Middle East made an impression at the Big 5 Show in Dubai, which was held between 17 and 20 November. On the largest stand of the trade show, the Technal offer was displayed in a welcoming and well lit up area: LUMEAL motorised sliding system, sliding windows, SOLEAL casements and doors with thermal break, OPALE partitions, SUNEAL brise-soleil, and of course the GEODE façade and its wide array of applications.
For Hesham Kameshki, TME commercial marketing and development manager, the Big 5 Show is a key event: "Each trade show is an opportunity to meet our customers and end users of our products, to communicate on TECHNAL innovations and their expectations. Technal Middle East's participation in the Big 5 Show follows on from the Paris Batimat international trade show. We were able to meet local professionals in the building industry who were not able to travel to Paris."
Over 1,000 visitors came to the stand to discover the TECHNAL offering. This success comes as no surprise for Hesham Kameshki, fully aware of TECHNAL's reputation: "we have been on the local markets for 30 years now and can prove for each project that we are able to be proactive to meet the requirements of consultants and architects thanks to our innovative architectural solutions."
